CEREC In Sterling Heights - What happens during a CEREC appointment?
The CEREC or “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics” system only entails a single appointment which will last about an hour.
During a typical CEREC appointment, various steps are performed by the dentist to arrive at an optimum final result. The process starts with the numbing of a tooth or area of the mouth in question. Once fully numbed, the tooth or the area is prepared for the next steps of the treatment process.
Normally, during the second phase, the dentist removes the decayed or the fractured portion of the tooth in question. Then that tooth is coated with a white imaging powder and scanned with an infrared (IR) intra oral scanner. The scan results in a three dimensional image which gets displayed on a computer screen.
Thereafter, the dentist uses patient-specific dental data to design the restoration in the computer with a very high degree of precision and accuracy. Once the restoration is designed and fine tuned, the three dimensional image is sent to a milling station where the restoration is milled to the very minute of detail, using a block of porcelain.
Once the milling process is complete, the restoration is tried on the patient’s mouth and any necessary adjustments are made. Finally, the restoration is bonded onto the patient’s tooth in question.
These placed restorations are known to last a very long time. Most restorations have been known to last around five to ten years or more. In certain instances, some restorations have lasted 25 years.
The restorations placed in patients’ mouths are highly aesthetic and look very natural. At LaserDentalAssociates.com, we have a large stock of dental porcelain in many different different colors. As a result, patients are given the option of having their restoration in the color of their natural teeth.
