Dental Crowns Sterling Heights - Why is CEREC considered a conservative procedure?
CEREC or “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics” is a state-of-the-art dental system used to fabricate ceramic-based dental restorations.
This system is considered by most dentists to be a very conservative procedure because it does not entail the reduction of an entire tooth in order to a fit a restoration. Since the CEREC system uses state-of-the-art adhesively bonded material, dentists are able to a restore a specific portion of a patient’s tooth in spite of it being fractured, decayed or altered without the process of cutting down the entire tooth and restoring it thereafter.
The conservativeness of the CEREC procedure is, to a larger degree, attributed to the very high levels of accuracy offered by the system. CEREC is an all-digital system which uses state of the art technology to provide extremely accurate restorations. As a result of its high degree of automation, the usual human errors of a normal restoration fabrication process are not present.
Normally, the use of the CEREC system starts with the photographing of the affected area in a patient’s mouth. The captured images are then transformed and stored as a 3D model and a special CEREC system-based software is utilized to design the restoration using dimensions and comparisons of the surrounding teeth. Thereafter, the 3D model is fine tuned using computer-aided design software. Once the refining process is complete, a milling machine produces the restoration out of a block of ceramic. The carving process is carried out by Diamond Head cutters which are under computer precision control. Upon completion, the restoration is fitted and bonded into the mouth of the patient.
CEREC is a revolutionary and cutting edge dental technology that offers many benefits to its users. Apart from speed and convenience, its many benefits include precision and accuracy and safety and durability.
