Acronyms can be frightening, especially ones that are used in a dentist’s office. But the equipment that Drs. Rosner, Gailey and Ibrahim use is nothing to be frightened of because it saves patients’ time.
So what is CEREC? CEREC is an acronym that stands for “Chair side Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.” Some people think of it is as “CEramic REConstruction.” The system saves time because, whereas previously one would have to make multiple visits to the dentist to have tooth repairs done, with CEREC it only takes one appointment.
In this method, an in-office CAD/CAM system for repairing teeth is used to take care of dental needs, all in one easy appointment. For example, when one goes in for tooth repairs, an impression of the teeth needs to be taken. The impression is soft material that records the finished shape of the tooth. This is similar to a negative of a photograph. After the tooth is prepared for the crown, the impression is subsequently sent to a dental lab. The lab fabricates the crown, after which the dentist can bond or cement the crown in place.
However, Laser Dental Associates feature state of the art technology in the CEREC CAD/CAM system, which they use to eliminate the impressions, second appointments, second anesthetic injections, and second inconveniences, saving time for patients.
Using the CEREC system, they are able to complete full repairs in one simple appointment!
